Visiting a farm during Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County's Open Farm Day offers a unique opportunity to explore our region's agricultural landscape firsthand. Participants have the opportunity to interact with farmers and gain insights into the practices and processes that sustain local farming communities. Through tours and hands-on-activities, guests can deepen their understanding of sustainable farming techniques and the importance of agriculture in our region. Open Farm Day fosters a sense of connection between consumers and producers, highlighting the significance of supporting local food systems. Whether you're interested in learning more about where your food comes from or simply enjoying a day exploring Broome County, this event offers something for everyone to enjoy and appreciate.

Open Farm Day is held annually in the spring and fall. The spring date is Saturday, April 20th, 2024 from 10 am until 4 pm unless otherwise noted. Watch this page for updates on fall Open Farm Day.

How to Participate:

Spring Open Farm Day is Saturday, April 20th, 2024 from 10 am to 4 pm. Please note that some locations will have different hours. All locations are listed below.

Twelve farms and agricultural businesses are participating in Spring Open Farm Day. Visit as many locations as you like! If you visit four or more locations, you can scan the QR code on your passport to enter to win a gift basket!

Participating Locations:

  • Broome County Regional Farmers Market

    The market is open year-round on Saturdays and stocked with local produce, meat, poultry, eggs, honey, maple, baked goods, prepared food, and more!

    Join us on Open Farm Day for a scavenger hunt and other fun activities! Please note that the Market will be open from 9 am to 1 pm only.

    The Market is located at 840 Upper Front St., Binghamton, NY 13905.

  • Country Wagon Produce

    Country Wagon is a one stop shop for local produce, meats, cheeses, spices, dressings, dips, and many other gifts and specialty items. Plus, they have an amazing bakery with fresh-made donuts on Saturdays and Sundays! Those who visit Country Wagon on Open Farm Day will receive a free donut and drink! Country Wagon is open on Saturdays from 8 am until 6 pm.

  • Dutch Hill Farm

    At Dutch Hill Farm, visitors can meet the lambs, a calf, and a horse, sample some locally produced maple syrup, and learn all about their animals and what they do on the farm. There will also be a coloring station.

  • Hidden Acres Maple

    Visitors to Hidden Acres Maple can enjoy tours of their sugarhouse and samples of maple syrup.

  • Hust Roost Farm

    Hust Roost Farm has a variety of baby animals including goats, chickens, turkeys, pigs, and rabbits! Kiddos can enjoy their bounce house as well! Plus, be sure to check out their country store with local products as well as pizza and Gifford’s Ice Cream! Or, grab some Smokey Legend BBQ for lunch! Hust Roost Farm is Open on Saturdays from 9 am until 7 pm.

  • Kimberly's Greenhouses

    Kimberly’s Greenhouses offers a variety of hanging baskets, planters, and plants for your home garden needs. Visit their greenhouses and also enjoy meeting their donkeys!

    Kids will also be able to plant a small planter for $10 and come up pick it up for Mother’s Day Weekend!

  • Maine Mavericks

    Maine Mavericks is a local horse club. They are hosting a tack sale/swap, a local ice cream truck, face painting, horse drawn wagon rides, and chicken BBQ!

  • Solid Ground Farm & Coffeehouse

    Relax in their coffeehouse’s rustic wood interior, complete with hand-hewn beams, wood ceiling, two stone fireplaces, pew bench seating in the balcony, booth seating or chairs and wood tables on the main floor. Their coffeehouse will be open for desserts, coffee, tea and more. Tours will be offered of farm to see their animals, including cows, pigs, and chickens!

  • Taste NY - Broome County

    Taste NY-Broome County offers a variety of products produced across New York State and has a small café offering coffee, smoothies, milkshakes, and a small food menu. Taste NY will have samples of products around the store and is offering 10% off purchases. Taste NY Broome County will be open from 8:30 am until 2 pm.

  • Valley View Farm Fresh Produce

    Valley View is a farm stand offering a variety of products. They will have free seedlings for kids to take home to plant, other kids activities, in store tastings, and chicken BBQ and other grilled foods to purchase. Dan the Snakeman will also be on site. Open daily 9am-6pm.

  • Wild Daisy Acres

    Wild Daisy Acres is located in Whitney Point, NY where they handcraft soaps and lotions from the milk produced on their dairy goat farm! They also carry a variety of other handcrafted personal care items like sugar scrubs, salt soaks and lip balms. For the April 20th date, they will be at an off farm location -they will be at the Broome County Farm Grounds for the Maine Mavericks Tack Sale. They will be bringing a handful of ladies and babies, and they will have all of the product that they make too.

    Open 11 am to 3 pm.

  • Windsor Schools Land Lab

    See youth agriculture in action at the Windsor Schools Land Lab! The high school students grow produce to donate back to their school lunch program, raise bees for honey, and have a small orchard. They will be offering tours, showcasing 4-H clubs and FFA projects, make and take vegetable plants, a scavenger hunt and games, and members of the Winsor Farmers Market will be present.
